Monday, July 18 & July 25 • 1:00-1:30 p.m. • Safety messages presented by the Round Lake Police Department …more info Newborns to adults are invited to sign-up. Read and win prizes! …more info The Round Lake Library and SWALCO would like to thank our patrons for participating in April’s ReUse-A-Shoe, shoe recycling program. We were able to collect multiple bags of shoes to be recycled and reused through two different programs, Nike’s ReUse-A-Shoe, and Share Your Soles. These were brought to SWALCO, where approximately 41,000 shoes were collected this year, weighing 8½ tons. That’s 17,000 pounds of shoes kept out of the landfills and sent to Nike to be ground up and reused as other products. Also, nearly 4,000 pairs of gently worn shoes were sent to Share Your Soles for those in need, many of which are on their way to Joplin, Missouri to aid victims after the recent tornadoes. Thank you again to all who participated and we look forward to receiving more of your used shoes next April!

HOPE. A simple word yet it means so much to someone in need. Donating blood is a simple act that helps save lives. In behalf of the library and the American Red Cross, I thank all the blood donors from the March 15 blood drive. The American Red Cross collected 27 units of blood. Each unit has the potential to save 3-4 lives. Special thanks to Culver’s (Grayslake) for providing “Give a Pint Get a Pint” coupons to presenting donors. Thank you for saving lives. Give Blood. Every Drop Counts. Next Library Blood Drive: May 17 3:00-7:00 p.m. Visit www.redcrossblood.org to sign up online or call (847) 546-7060, prompt 4.
