Friends of the Library RE-ORGANIZING!

Friends will be hosting an Open House on Monday, January 9, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the library’s meeting room. Over the past many years, Friends has accomplished a lot for the Round Lake Area Public Library, and hopefully, the library will be able to continue to count on Friends for its support.  Friends has conducted book sales, hosted fundraisers, helped with special programs, and held author signings. Now more than ever, Friends are in need of active members. If you can donate a few hours of your time to help Friends grow, please come to hear more about the Friends. Join in on the discussion about how the Friends can continue to support the library. Working together, we can accomplish great things for the library! If you have any questions, please contact Daniel Melendez at 847-546-7060 ext. 310 or Friends@rlalibrary.org.

Kill-A-Watt Meter

Kill-A-Watt™ Meters from Com Ed:  Commonwealth Edison donated two Kill-A-Watt™ meter readers to the Round Lake Area Library as part of the Smart Ideas Initiative.

The Kill-A-Watt is a terrific device to help you reduce your energy use and save money on your power bill.

The meter measures the electrical draw of any plug-in device in your home. Simply plug a device into the meter, which will instantly show how much electricity is being consumed. Use this information to control your energy use and electric bill.
The Kill-A-Watt Meter can:

  • find power-wasting appliances in your home
  • keep track of voltage-sensitive instruments
  • displays Volts, Amps, Watts and frequency
  • monitor electricity usage by keeping track of the total kilowatt-hours used

The meters can be picked up at the library’s Adult Services Reference Desk and are available to Round Lake residents for one week.

All toys donated will be redistributed into the Round Lake Area and will enhance such organizations as the Avon Township Food Pantry, P.L.A.N and Allendale.   “Times are tough, but we hope that the community can come forward with donations so that every child will experience the magic of the holiday season, ” said Elena Lara, Head of Outreach Services.
