Computer Classes
for Summer 2010
Advance registration is required for all classes. Please note: sign-ups will only be available 2 weeks before the start of each class. Individual assistance with keyboarding practice and creating an e-mail account is available at any time. Please sign up at the Adult Services Reference Desk, or call (847) 546-7060, prompt 4.
The following three classes will be taught one-on-one, or in a small group of no more than two persons. To request instruction please fill out a form at the Adult Services Reference Desk and an appointment time will be arranged with you.
Basic Computer Skills (By appointment only):
This is the foundation class for learning the mouse and keyboard skills necessary to use all programs on the computer.
Digital Images (By appointment only):
Bring in your digital camera and learn how to upload, edit, crop and resize the pictures so that you can save them and share them via the Internet. Experience with copy and paste and an e-mail account is required.
Google Documents (By appointment only):
Learn to use different Google applications for document creation and other forms. Prior experience with MS Word and MS Excel required.
Internet for Beginners (Classroom):
Learn how to search the Internet. Find what you’re looking for using search engines and information directories. Learn how to safely shop, do your banking online, and get driving directions. Basic computer skills are required.

Introduction to Microsoft Word (Classroom):
We will teach you how to use the icons that make composing a document easy. Basic computer skills are required.
Session A: Monday, June 14, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
Session B: Saturday, June 19, 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.
Microsoft Word II (Classroom):
Explore different templates, formatting options, and the insertion of graphics into everyday Word applications. Basic MS Word knowledge is required.
Session A: Monday, June 28, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
Session B: Saturday, July 3, 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.
Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint (Classroom):
Learn how to prepare business slide presentations, print hand-outs, and create a personal picture slide show. Prerequisite: Introduction to MS Word class or skill demonstration of highlighting text, and changing font size and style.
Session A: Monday, July 5, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
Session B: Saturday, July 10, 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.
Introduction of Microsoft Publisher (Classroom):
Create high quality flyers, brochures and documents using Microsoft Publisher. Basic MS Word skills are required
Session A: Monday, July 12, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
Session B: Saturday, July 17, 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.
Introduction to Microsoft Excel (Classroom):
Explore the anatomy of a spreadsheet, basic functions of the keyboard, and take a look at simple formulas, along with some other vital functions of this application. Basic computer skills are required for this class.
Session A: Monday, July 19, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
Session B: Saturday, July 24, 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.
Microsoft Excel II (Classroom):
Explore the intricacies of complex formulas, predetermined functions, formatting, and basic graphs. Basic MS Excel knowledge is necessary.
Session A: Monday, August 9, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
Session B: Saturday, August 14, 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.
